Paris. France. Barry der Menschenretter (1800–1814), also known as Barry, was a dog of a breed which was later called the St. Bernard that worked as a mountain rescue dog in Switzerland for the Great St Bernard Hospice. He predates the modern St. Bernard, and was lighter built than the modern breed. He has been described as the most famous St. Bernard, as he was credited with saving more than 40 lives during his lifetime.

He could locate people buried under the earthquake rubble and not only differentiate whether the person was dead or alive, but could also indicate this to the other members of the rescue crew.

Japan. Statues that remember the "ill-fated 1958 Japanese research expedition to Antarctica, which made an emergency evacuation and was forced to leave behind 15 sled dogs. The researchers believed that a relief team would arrive within a few days. However, the weather turned bad and the team never made it to the outpost. Incredibly, nearly one year later, a new expedition arrived and discovered that two of the dogs, Taro and Jiro, had survived and they became instant heroes."

Tahmoor. New South Wales. Australia. Titan was "a General Purpose canine who was fatally stabbed whilst trying to apprehend an offender in December, 2004 at Seven Hills. The memorial is also dedicated to Titan’s brother and fellow Police Dog, Carts, who was also stabbed to death, in February 2007, whilst chasing a thief at Corrimal. Both dogs were bred at Tahmoor and were regular visitors to the town centre and Emmett Park, where the memorial now stands.

MWD Chyba C260 was a Patrol-Narcotics Detector Dog and also deployed to Iraq for 6 months in August of 2004.
