Tokyo. Japan. Hachikō (November 10, 1923 – March 8, 1935) was an Akita dog born on a farm near the city of Ōdate, Akita Prefecture and is remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his owner which continued for many years after his owner's death.

Borgo San Lorenzo. Italy. Fido (1941 – June 9, 1958) was an Italian street dog that came to public attention in 1943 because of his demonstration of unswerving loyalty to his dead master. Fido was written about in many Italian and international magazines and newspapers, appeared in newsreels throughout Italy, and was bestowed several honors, including a public statue erected in his honor.

Old Shep - Was a faithful dog who kept vigil, at first, outside the hospital his owner had been hospitalized, and later, at the train station in Fort Benton, Montana, for five and a half years, waiting patiently the return of his beloved friend — whose body had been sent away by relatives, in August, 1936. Old Shep died on January 12, 1942. His collar and bowl are at the Museum of the Upper Missouri.

Juneau. Alaska. USA. Bull Terrier born in Portland, Oregon, on October 12, 1929; a puppy yet, she went to live in Juneau, Alaska. Although quite deaf, Patsy always could tell when ships were arriving at the port — before they were at sight — and loved to salute the visitors. Because of that, the mayor granted her the title "Official Greeter of Juneau" in 1934. Patsy was very much loved. She died in March 30, 1942.
